Our client, a leading player in the chemical industry, asked CTP environnement to carry out mechanical cleaning of the cooling tower for the water supplied to its workshops, and to clean the tank (not including pumping out).
CTP environnement proposed an innovative solution, which took account of the facility’s structure, i.e. 4 cells with PVC droplet separators, a concrete tank with a soundproof floor and 2 m (6 ft) high packing.
The service also included (replacement items not supplied):
- Destruction and replacement of the packing for two cells
- Replacement of spray nozzles
- Replacement of droplet separators for one cell
Removing the packing via the top of the tower, including the use of a crane to remove the cone and to replace the suspended packing - an operation never undertaken before – significantly reduced the time needed for the operation.
Various operations were then coordinated for high-pressure cleaning, removing overlying water, hydrojet cleaning of the tank with sludge removal to an approved treatment centre (handled by the client), and rendering the cells compliant before cleaning and withdrawal from the site.
The synchronisation of operations and cooperation between the client’s and CTP environnement’s teams, as well as excellent safety conditions on the site, all contributed to the success of this operation in terms of adhering to commitments and lead times. Recommendations have been made and retained for future maintenance of the cooling tower by CTP environnement.
